Armenian alphabet

The Armenian alphabet was invented by Mesrop Mashtots in 403 AD. Armenians are very proud of their alphabet and rightly so. It is made up of beautiful characters which represent some wonderful, exotic sounds. Alas, it is an extremely difficult alphabet to learn. I've tried to learn but still get the letters confused. Lord Byron apparently studied Armenian for six months before giving up.

The picture on the left is of a statue of Mashtots near his tomb. Below you can see another statue of the man with his babies.
