Tamgaly Tas Petroglyphs, Kazakhstan

The petroglyphs are on the bank of the Ily River, about 100 km from Almaty. I don't know how many there are, but I could only find this one. The picture could represent Buddha or Siva, apparently, but nobody's sure. It was probably drawn over two thousand years ago by people who travelled to Kazakhstan along the river.

This is the Ily River. It's a big, slow river, flowing out of China and into Lake Balkhash.	Here's one of the local residents who doesn't seem too keen on visitors.
The surrounding countryside is flat steppe and, look... there's something on the horizon....	...it's more of the local residents. We had to wait till they had all crossed the road.
The weather was dry and sunny all day and we drove home under a sunset of changing colours.
