Petronas towers Kuala Lumpur Central KL from Petronas towers Strictly no durians allowed
We flew to Malaysia from Chennai in south India and our port of entry was Kuala Lumpur, which is famous for the Petronas Towers. For a short time they were the highest towers in the world. Now they are the highest twin towers in the world. The second picture above is a view from halfway up the towers, as is the first picture in the row below. We stayed in the Malaysia Hotel in Chinatown. It was a nice place and the management were considerate enough to ban durians. Someone on our floor ate one though and the place was stinking for hours.

The food is great in Chinatown. It's not traditional Malay food, of course. It's Chinese. We tried to get into Malay food but we didn't find much veggie stuff and what we did find was too similar to what we had already been eating in India for weeks. All the Chinese food we had was excellent and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the street cafes, especially as it was very close to Chinese New Year. Sveta went shopping and bought some red New Year lanterns.

From KL we went straight to Penang, an island in the north west of the country. The temples above were in Pennang - again in the Chinatown area.

From Penang, we took a boat to another island called Lankawi. It has great beaches and we spent a week chilling on Cenang beach.

From Lankawi we took another boat to Thailand.
