Tiblisi, Georgia, 2006

I took these pictures around the old town area in late summer.

This statue was outside the art museum and got us interested enough to see more, but the museum was shut. We decided to stroll through the old town instead. It was a very hot day but the narrow tree-lined streets were shady and cool.

There are lots of old wood, brick and plaster buildings with rickety balconies. Most of them have still not been renovated which I think makes them much more pleasant to look at, if not to live in.

It's easy to get lost in the old city, but eventually you come out at a place you recognise.

The river runs right through the centre of the city and when you cross the bridge you can follow steep streets up onto the cliff top for a spectacular view.
